About Sonic Zeta Overdrive
Introduction: Sonic Zeta Overdrive is a ROM hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. It was shown as a SAGE project in 2009 and is built on Sonic 2 rather than Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack retains the Sonic 2 engine and its momentum-based platforming while modifying stage layouts, graphics, palettes, objects, and other presentation elements. Its design is centered on creating a different Sonic 2 experience rather than importing Sonic 3 character abilities.
Key Features:
- Built directly from Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
- Modified level design and presentation created as a fan ROM-hacking project.
- Classic Sonic 2 movement and physics remain the foundation of the gameplay.
Sonic Zeta Overdrive should therefore be described as a Sonic 2 modification, not as a Sonic 3 & Knuckles overhaul.
