Sonic Mania Edition

Introduction: Sonic 1: Mania Edition is a fan-made ROM hack of the original Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive, created in 2016 while Sonic Mania was still an upcoming game. The project attempts to reproduce selected visual, animation, interface, movement, and level-design ideas from early Sonic Mania footage inside Sonic 1.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack keeps Sonic 1 as its technical base but adds later-style features including the Spin Dash and Sonic Mania-inspired Drop Dash. Green Hill Zone received layout and presentation changes based on publicly shown Mania material, along with updated Sonic animation, HUD elements, Ring animation, and selected audio changes.

The project was an experimental 2016 Mania-style Sonic 1 hack, not a complete Genesis demake of the finished 2017 Sonic Mania campaign.
