Introduction: Sonic 1 Megamix is a comprehensive ROM hack of the original Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis. It transforms the base game with entirely new level layouts, a significantly expanded roster of playable characters, and a visual style that incorporates custom sprites and palettes inspired by later Sonic titles and promotional art.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack features eight playable characters: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, Metal Sonic, Mighty, Ray, and Shadow. Each character retains their signature abilities from other games; Sonic uses the Drop Dash from Sonic Mania, Tails can fly, Knuckles glides and climbs, and Amy uses her Piko Piko Hammer. The physics are heavily modified from the original Sonic 1 engine to feel more akin to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, with improved momentum and slope interaction. Characters can perform a new double-jump ability, and Super transformations are available for Sonic, Knuckles, and Shadow after collecting the Chaos Emeralds.
