About This Game
Introduction: Sonic Stardust Gear is a fan made ROM hack of the 1994 Sega Genesis game Sonic 3 & Knuckles. It is a complete overhaul that replaces all original zones with new stages, featuring a space themed setting and a visual style built from heavily edited and custom sprite work. The game presents a new, non canonical story across its levels.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack retains the core physics and mechanics of its base game, providing the familiar momentum based platforming of Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Sonic is the sole playable character, with his standard moveset including the Spin Dash and the Insta Shield from Sonic 3. The game does not include the Drop Dash or Peel out abilities. Level design follows the classic multi act structure with bosses, focusing on high speed pathways and platforming challenges that utilize the precise physics of the original engine.
Key Features:
- Completely new level layouts across seven main zones, each with a distinct space and mechanical theme, requiring mastery of Sonic's movement.
- A full custom soundtrack composed of original FM synth music designed for the Genesis sound chip, replacing all stage and boss themes.
- New special stages that task the player with collecting a required number of blue spheres while navigating a fully custom, twisting 3D landscape.
