About This Game
Introduction: Sonic Classic Heroes is a comprehensive ROM hack for the Sega Genesis, built on a modified Sonic 2 engine. It is not an official game or a bootleg. The hack compiles levels from Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic & Knuckles into a single campaign, reimagined for a team-based playstyle. It uses the original games' sprites and tilesets, with adjusted palettes and layouts to accommodate its core mechanic.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The defining feature is the team system, where you control three characters simultaneously, similar to the console game Sonic Heroes. You form a team of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. You can instantly switch the lead character with a button press, utilizing Sonic's speed, Tails' flight, and Knuckles' climbing and gliding to navigate the classic stages. The physics are based on the Sonic 2 engine, providing authentic momentum and slope handling. Each character retains their signature abilities: Sonic has the Drop Dash from Sonic Mania, Tails can fly and swim, and Knuckles can climb and glide. All characters can perform the Insta-Shield. The game also includes a competitive 2-player split-screen mode.
