About This Game
Introduction: "Sonic Xs" is a fan-made ROM hack of the original Sega Genesis game Sonic the Hedgehog. It is designed to run on the "Flash Classic" system, which typically refers to emulation or hardware that plays Genesis ROM files. The hack features entirely new level layouts across its zones, built from the ground up rather than being simple palette swaps of the original stages. It utilizes the original game's sprites and visual assets but arranges them into fresh, challenging environments.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The game is a single-player experience starring Sonic alone, with no Tails or Knuckles as playable characters. It retains the core physics and mechanics of the original Sonic 1, meaning momentum-based movement, accurate slope interaction, and the classic spin jump and roll. Sonic has his standard abilities: collecting rings for protection, breaking monitors for power-ups like the Invincibility or Speed Shoes, and defeating enemies to progress. The physics feel is authentic to the 1991 title, offering the same precise control and flow when mastered. It does not introduce later mechanics like the Insta-Shield or Drop Dash.
Key Features:
- Completely original zone layouts that demand mastery of Sonic's core movement and offer a new challenge for veteran players.
- A new progression of six main zones, each with two acts and a boss fight, following the classic structure but with unfamiliar stage geography.
- Customized level palettes and object placement that create a distinct visual identity separate from Green Hill Zone or Marble Zone.
