About Sonic Stadium
Introduction: "Sonic Stadium" is a fan made ROM hack of the 1994 game "Sonic & Knuckles" for the Sega Genesis. It is not an official title. The hack reimagines the game as a series of arena based combat stages, replacing the traditional platforming zones with custom designed battle arenas. The visual style retains the original Sonic & Knuckles sprite work and palettes but places them in all new, enclosed layouts.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The core gameplay is completely altered from the base game. You control Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles, each with their standard abilities from Sonic & Knuckles, such as Knuckles' gliding and climbing. The objective is to defeat all robot enemies, called Badniks, within each enclosed arena before a timer runs out. The physics engine is the original Sonic & Knuckles engine, so character movement and momentum feel authentic, but it is applied to this non standard combat focused design. There is no traditional platforming or level progression; the challenge comes from clearing each arena efficiently.
Key Features:
- Completely new arena based stage design, replacing the original levels with custom battle rooms.
- Playable characters are Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles with their canonical Genesis era abilities.
- A dedicated boss rush mode that compiles the original Sonic & Knuckles boss fights into a single sequence.
