Introduction: Sonic 2 Kaizo is a fan made ROM hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis. It is known for its extremely difficult, precision based level layouts that completely redesign every zone. The visual style uses the original game's sprites and tilesets but rearranges them into devious new obstacle courses, often with altered enemy placements and palette swaps to signal danger.
Gameplay & Mechanics: You control Sonic alone. The core physics engine from Sonic 2 remains, meaning your momentum, jump arcs, and spin dash are familiar. The challenge comes from the level design, which demands pixel perfect jumps, precise timing, and memorization of trap locations. Rings are scarce, and bottomless pits are common. The game expects mastery of Sonic's movement, including maintaining speed on slopes and using the spin dash for controlled bursts. There are no new character abilities; survival relies entirely on player skill.
