Introduction: "Metal Sonic Hyperdrive" is a ROM hack of the 1994 Sega Genesis game "Sonic & Knuckles". It is a character swap hack that replaces the standard playable characters with Metal Sonic, using custom sprites and a modified moveset. The game takes place across the original fourteen zones from "Sonic 3 & Knuckles", retaining their layouts but applying new color palettes and a unique visual filter to match the robotic protagonist.
Gameplay & Mechanics: You control Metal Sonic exclusively. His core movement is based on Sonic's original physics, preserving the momentum based platforming of the base game. However, his signature ability is the Hyperdrive, activated by pressing down and jump while moving at high speed. This launches him forward in a sustained, high velocity dash that can plow through most enemies and break certain walls. He cannot spin dash normally, but the Hyperdrive serves as a powerful, momentum reliant alternative. He retains the Insta Shield from Sonic 3, providing a brief defensive burst. The hack does not include a playable Tails or Knuckles, nor their respective climbing or gliding abilities.
