Introduction: "Sonic 2 Robotnik's Revenge" is a ROM hack of the 1992 Sega Genesis game "Sonic the Hedgehog 2". It modifies the original game by replacing all seven of its main Zones with new, custom level layouts, while retaining the original game's sprites, sound effects, and core visual style. The hack presents a new, more challenging campaign set across familiar Zone themes like Emerald Hill and Metropolis, but with completely redesigned stages.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack uses the original Sonic 2 engine, so the physics and character abilities are identical. You control Sonic, with Tails as an optional AI or second-player companion. The momentum-based physics, spin dash, and core movement are preserved. The primary change is the level design itself, which is generally more complex and demanding than the original game's layouts. New enemy placements, trap configurations, and longer, more labyrinthine paths require precise platforming and route memorization. There are no new character abilities like the insta-shield or drop dash.
