Introduction: "Sonic Streets Of Rage 2" is a ROM hack of the 1992 beat 'em up "Streets of Rage 2" for the Sega Genesis. It replaces the original cast and sprites with characters and assets from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. The setting is the urban stages from the base game, such as the City and the Amusement Park, but now populated with Robotnik's Badniks and other Sonic enemies instead of standard thugs. The visual style is a direct sprite swap, using official Sonic character sprites over the original character frames.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The core gameplay remains that of "Streets of Rage 2". You control Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles, each mapped onto the moveset of an original character (like Axel or Blaze). Their movement and attacks are the stiff, deliberate actions of a beat 'em up character, not the momentum based physics of a Sonic platformer. You perform standard punches, kicks, and special attacks by pressing the attack button in combination with directions. The special "Blitz" and "Grand Upper" moves consume health. There are no platforming specific abilities like the Spin Dash or Insta shield; the mechanics are purely combat oriented, including picking up weapons like pipes and knives from the ground.
