Introduction: Sonic Hyper X is a comprehensive ROM hack of the 1994 game Sonic & Knuckles, designed to run on the Sega Genesis. It is a complete overhaul that replaces all seven main zones with entirely new, custom-designed stages, featuring original level layouts, new enemy placements, and a fresh visual style that uses a mix of edited and custom sprite art while maintaining the authentic 16-bit aesthetic.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack features Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles as playable characters, each with their classic abilities from Sonic 3 & Knuckles. The physics are based directly on the original Sonic 3 & Knuckles engine, preserving its precise momentum and slope handling. A key addition is the Insta-Shield from Sonic 3, which is now available to all characters, not just Sonic. The game also includes the Hyper Forms for Sonic and Knuckles, accessible after collecting all Chaos and Super Emeralds, which grant enhanced speed and abilities.
