Introduction: Sonic 2 Delta is a comprehensive ROM hack of the original Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis. It is not an official game or a bootleg. The hack retains the original game's eleven zones but extensively modifies their layouts, enemy placement, and boss encounters to create a more challenging experience. Visually, it uses the original Sonic 2 sprite and tile assets, though some palettes are adjusted for new level gimmicks.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The core physics are based on Sonic 2, but the level design demands much more precise platforming and route knowledge. You control Sonic and Tails, either solo or as a team. The Spin Dash and Super Peel Out moves are present. A key mechanical addition is the Insta-Shield from Sonic 3, giving Sonic a brief moment of invincibility after a jump. The hack is known for its difficulty spike; bottomless pits and aggressive enemy patterns are common, testing the player's mastery of momentum and character control. The special stages are also remixed for increased challenge.
