The visual style uses the original Sonic 2 sprite and tile assets, but rearranges them into new configurations, often with altered color palettes for a distinct look. The setting takes Sonic through a series of reimagined and original zones.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The game is played solely as Sonic. It retains the core physics engine of the base Sonic 2 ROM, providing the familiar momentum based movement, spin dashing, and rolling. There is no new character or ability added; Sonic does not have the Insta Shield from Sonic 3, nor the Drop Dash from later titles. The mechanics are pure, unmodified Sonic 2.
