Sonic 2 Chaos Adventure

Introduction: Sonic 2 Chaos Adventure is a fan-made ROM hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. Rather than simply rearranging the original stages, the project was built around new level design and additional gameplay ideas. The SAGE 2020 demo focused on a rebuilt Emerald Hill Zone and showcased the hack's custom systems and presentation.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack keeps the basic momentum-driven movement of Sonic 2, including running, rolling, jumping, and the Spin Dash, but adds new power-ups that change how sections of a stage are approached. Demonstrated power-ups include the Pogo Spring, Rocket Shoes, and Snowboard. The demo also includes a pause menu and changes the life system so that extra lives are tied to rings.
