Introduction: "Final Fantasy Sonic X6" is a fan-made ROM hack of the 1994 Sega Genesis game Sonic & Knuckles. It is not an official title nor a Flash game, but a modification designed to run on Genesis emulators or original hardware via flash cartridges. The hack presents a crossover premise, re-skinning the game with characters and themes from the Final Fantasy series, notably from Final Fantasy VI. The visual style replaces Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles with sprites of characters like Terra and Locke, and modifies level palettes and some tiles to evoke a fantasy RPG aesthetic, though the core level layouts of the original zones remain intact.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The gameplay foundation is identical to Sonic & Knuckles. You control characters whose movement and physics—such as momentum, rolling, and slope interaction—are precisely the classic Genesis engine. The hack replaces the original trio with new character sprites, but they retain the exact abilities of their counterparts: the Sonic replacement has the Insta-Shield and can transform into Super form with the Chaos Emeralds, the Tails replacement can fly and swim, and the Knuckles replacement can glide and climb walls.
