About This Game

Sonic Triple Trouble MS Box Art

Introduction: Sonic Triple Trouble MS is a fan made ROM hack of the official 1994 Game Gear game Sonic Triple Trouble, ported to run on the Sega Master System hardware. It is not a bootleg. The hack adapts the original game's five main zones, like Tidal Plant and Atomic Destroyer, to the Master System's 8 bit capabilities, featuring a new color palette and redesigned level layouts to accommodate the SMS's lower screen resolution compared to the Game Gear.

Gameplay & Mechanics: You control Sonic and Tails, either solo or in a cooperative mode. The physics are a direct translation of the original Game Gear title's engine, which is simpler and stiffer than the Genesis games, with less emphasis on building momentum. Sonic retains his basic jump and spin dash. Tails can fly and swim independently when playing solo, a key feature for exploration. The game does not include moves like the insta shield or drop dash. Special stages are accessed by collecting 50 rings and passing a checkpoint, where you chase a UFO in a pseudo 3D maze.

Key Features:

  • Faithful Master System port with redesigned level layouts for the system's screen.
  • Cooperative two player mode where a second player can control Tails.
  • Original Game Gear soundtrack adapted for the Master System's sound chip.
This hack successfully brings a handheld Sonic adventure to the home console it was originally designed for.
